In A.D 52 St Thomas came to Malyankara near Musaris(now Kodugalloor) and preached christianity, consecrated churches and converted many to christianity.Mylakkattu family has its roots in Pakalomattom family which is one among the first family to embrace christianity from St Thomas,The Apostile.
Due to portugese arrival on the latter century which tried to destroy the inherited syrian christian faith, along with enemity from the other religious ruler’s made syrian christians to leave from there , Spices trade flourishing in travancore and proximity to the “Queen of Arabian sea” may also be seen as a reason. In these circumstances our family members left from there and came to Athirampuzha and kuravilangadu.Here we were known by the name Vembeny Family.
From there some of our grand fathers came to kottayam and settled in a beautiful place rich with myla tree’s,from here we got the name Mylakkattu.It is here the Jerusalem Marthoma Church,Kottayam is now situated.This is seen in the old document’s of the church.From kottayam our family members also moved to other District’s and now in different parts of the world.
In different places we are now called Mylakkattu, Amakkattu, Thekkel ,Malathu,Neelambadavathu ,Perumanakunnel though all belong to Mylakkattu Family.
It is our duty to remember our inherited heritage ,cultural and moral values .Character and moral values are framed in family itself.Let us get aquainted so as to create a strong bonded family.Do something in your own special ways, Do anything that you don’t have to do.
